Mr. A. C. Crawford, who later became Judge Crawford, was the fifth mayor of Dothan. He was elected for two terms. His first term began in 1888, and then again, in 1892. He thought from the first we would have a town here, and he went to work trying to build one. He put up a brick yard, but finally went into the contracting business, and probably has more bricks into the walls in Dothan than any other contractor. He would give those who would settle in Dothan one wall of brick.

Nearl all the first buildings here were put u by him. There being no hotels in those days he would invite all travelers to his house and later on he had to run a boarding house, or hotel, for those who wanted a place to board. (Watson, Fred S., Hub of the Wiregrass)
