From the Editor: Welcome to Southern-style.

Dear Friends,

Through this portal you can enter a truly southern world.  If life in the South interests you...if you love Gardens, Genealogy, Family History and Recipes, you will enjoy this very personal peek  into our Southern Family and our Traditions.  Houston County is my home county, but my husband and I both share ancestral roots in Wilcox County.  Our "happy place" happens to be Panama City, Florida.  I plan to share much more about all of these places  and their wonderful people with you in the future.

My favorite thing about this website has long been meeting cousins around the world.  I hope you will enjoy participating in our expanded website.

Please, send us pictures and information you have of ancestors we share that the rest of us would find interesting.  I am open to starting a message board on any topic you might find interesting within these web pages.  Sharing information, pictures, stories of our ancestors, ideas on weddings, gardening...or sharing seeds!  would be such fun.  I can certainly use your input in my new capacity as Mother of the Groom

On this page, I will try to bring to your attention something "new" to the website.

I look forward to hearing from you.

New

Powhatan-Vann

The Powhatan-Vann line came as a complete surprise.  We had family lore that Vashti Vann who married Benjamin Jernigan was of Indian blood.  It would have seemed logical that she be Cherokee as she is related to Chief James Vann.  However, the connection to the Indians who befriended (and fought) the settlers at Jamestown (some of whom were our ancestors as well) came as a surprise.  How interesting!  I look forward to learning more.

Destination St. Andrews

If you've never been there, you have now been alerted to the fact that there is very definitely something you have missed.  This is our favorite place in the whole wide world, other than home, of course.

Croquet

Croquet is making a comeback.  More and more people are turning their back yards into Sunday afternoon sports arenas.  Make it an event and have fun!

My opinion...but I'm entitled.

About Us

I have worked hard at reorganizing this website.  My children have complained about poor navigation.  If you have suggestions, they are welcome.  It is truly an extensive site and much is mainly in my own head.  I hope the new look makes it easier for you to locate what you are looking for.
