Classic on Noble
1024 Noble Street Anniston, AL
Classic on Noble came as a surprise to us. This jewel lies tucked away off the beaten path in Anniston, Alabama.
This former brothel and gambling den during prohibition eventually went straight and became a Woolworth's. The Woolworth's went the way of all flesh as downtowns gave way to shopping centers and malls. But, the building kept its dignity and once again changed careers. This time it welcomed David and Cathy Marshburn who dreamed of starting a fine restaurant in Anniston, Alabama. Now guests come all around (Birmingham, Huntsville, Gadsden) to experience the fine dining at Classic on Noble. It has become a family affair with sister Mary, their mom and dad and nephew all helping out. Mary Wisdom, the owner's sister and kitchen manager, who is in charge of salads and it is she who created the Fried Green Tomato and Black-eyed Pea dazzler on the Chefs Main Page.
Though David and his wife Cathy were on a cruise, Southern-style contributing editors Robert and Judy Grimes knew we should not miss this opportunity and arranged a special visit for us for lunch at Classic on Noble. And it was a treat!
Mary greeted us at the door and led us through the elegant foyer and up the stairs to a table beautifully set up by the window on the street. The building is artfully restored and is well worth the visit simply for the architecture and ambiance. Classic on Noble gets four stars in those categories. David Marshburn is the designer for the remodel as well as the decorator.
